Welcome to Standard Sport’s rolling coverage of the summer transfer window as the speculation ramps up.
The window officially opened in July after the completion of the delayed 2019-2020 Premier League season. Clubs will now be busy tweaking their squads ahead of the new campaign, with the deadline pushed back until October 5.
Arsenal have signed Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes, while Chelsea have confirmed the £90m arrival of Kai Havertz, having previously signed Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr, Ben Chilwell, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
Manchester United have signed Donny van de Beek while working on a deal for Jadon Sancho and – reportedly – Dayot Upamecano, while Tottenham have signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty.
Liverpool are biding their time in pursuit of Thiago Alcantara, but the biggest story is that Lionel Messi has decided to stay at Barcelona.

Barca join Liverpool in Thiago race
Barcelona have joined Liverpool in the race for Thiago Alcantara, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Ronald Koeman is keen to sign Georginio Wijnaldum from the Reds but the club are at odds with the new manager and would rather pursue a deal for Thiago.
Liverpool’s interest reportedly hinges on them selling Wijnaldum to Barca, meaning they could now miss out on Thiago.
Thiago to Liverpool ‘for £20m’
Liverpool will sign Thiago Alcantara this summer with Jurgen Klopp looking to seal a deal for around £20million, Jamie Carragher has predicted.
The Bayern Munich has made clear his desire for a new challenge after seven years in Germany and Liverpool are understands to be front-runners for the midfielder’s signature.
Bayern are holding out for around £25m for Thiago, but Carragher expects Klopp to wrap up the transfer so a lower fee due to the player’s age.
“The only worry that might put Liverpool off is Thiago’s age – but I think the signing will still happen,” Carragher told The Mirror.
“Liverpool have a few players in the squad around 28 or 29 and that’s why the deal will have to be on their terms – maybe nearer £20m.
“What Thiago does is add something different to what Liverpool have in midfield.
“The midfielders all do a brilliant job but are quite similar. It would be nice to have someone who can control the game more. It would be nice if they had a bit extra technically.
“I think a move will probably happen towards the end of the window.”

Barca prepare new Martinez bid
Barcelona are preparing a final offer for Inter Milan’s Argentina striker Lautaro Martinez, according to Goal.
Barca are desperate to sign a replacement for Luis Suarez, who looks poised to join Juventus, and identified Martinez as their No1 target at the start of the summer.
Donnarumma wants €10m-per-season
Reported Chelsea target Gianluigi Donnarumma is demanding €10m-a-year if he is to stay beyond 2020/21, according to 90min.
Donnarumma has entered the final year of his contract with AC Milan and the club fear losing him for nominal compensation next summer.
Milan are working hard to agree fresh terms with the 21-year-old.

Solskjaer tells Woodward to ‘fix’ Sancho saga
Well-connected Norwegian Fredrik Filtvedt reports that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has delivered a firm message to Ed Woodward regarding Manchester United’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho.
Solskjaer has demanded Woodward “fixes” the situation with Sancho keen on a move to Old Trafford. The United boss has reportedly been in regular contact with Sancho but Dortmund are clear that they do not want to sell.
The Bundesliga club were open to a sale at their £108m valuation earlier in the window but imposed their own August 10 deadline for the deal to be agreed. However, Manchester United have not been put off by this stance and feel they can still seal the transfer this summer.
Neymar convinced Silva to join Chelsea
Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar played a key role in convincing Thiago Silva to join Chelsea, according to reports.
The Telegraph claims that amid interest from AC Milan and a new contract offer from PSG, Silva spoke with both Neymar and Willian about his next move.
Neymar, in particular, was reportedly ‘remarkably clear’ and urged Silva to join Chelsea, advising he would later regret not taking up the challenge if he turned it down.
A source told the Telegraph that Willian joked: “If I’d known you were moving to Chelsea, I would have stayed there after all.”

Race on for Reguilon
The race is still on for Sergio Reguilon, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Reguilon has been offered to Manchester United but Sevilla are among a number of clubs also in the hunt.
The Liga club are keen to loan him from Real Madrid after a successful stint last season.
The Manchester United board and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are reportedly considering him as one of a few options. United will make a decision “soon”.

Two in at Toon
Newcastle are discussing personal terms with Callum Wilson after seeing a £20m bid accepted by Bournemouth, according to The Guardian.
Aston Villa also had an offer for Wilson accepted but have since withdrawn their interest after it emerged Wilson favoured a move to St. James’ Park.
Newcastle are also set to reinforce their defence after with the £13.5m signing of Norwich defender Jamal Lewis.
Chelsea’s talks with Rennes over a move for goalkeeper Edouard Mendy are ongoing, report the Mirror.
Frank Lampard has not been won over by Kepa Arrizabalaga, who remains Chelsea’s club-record signing despite Friday’s arrival of Kai Havertz.
Mendy is Lampard’s first choice, though Ajax’s Andre Onana and Paris Saint-Germain’s Alphonse Areola have been offered to the club.
Gunners receive Partey boost
Atletico Madrid have set their sights on Marc Roca but know a deal hinges on Thomas Partey departing, according to Marca.
Partey declined a recent contract offer from Atletico Madrid and with his future up in the air the club could look to move him on and bring in Roca.
Arsenal are the front-runners for Partey, who has a £45million release clause, though ESPN claim they now face competition from PSG.
New Arsenal Aouar bid
Lyon have rejected a player-plus-cash bid from Arsenal for Houssem Aouar, according to RMC Sport.
The Gunners have offered £31.2m and a player – believed to be Matteo Guendouzi – for the 22-year-old, who they value at £45m.
Asked about a possible move last month, Aouar said: “I haven’t left yet, so I haven’t asked this question.”
According to The Telegraph, Bayer Leverkusen has narrowed their right-back search down to Tottenham’s Serge Aurier or Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin.
The club are flush having sold Kai Havertz to Chelsea, and Bellerin is understood to cost around £10m more than Aurier.
Manchester City have seen a €70m bid for Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez rejected, report SportItalia.
Pep Guardiola will now turn back to Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, the report add.
City do not want to spend more and believe Napoli will accept a similar fee for Koulibaly.
Lyon coach Rudi Garcia is happy for Memphis Depay to join Barcelona.
The former Manchester United winger is reportedly a target for Ronald Koeman, who coached Depay while with the Netherlands squad and wants to take him to Camp Nou.
Garcia told Telefoot: “I read the Catalan press this morning. They talk about Memphis. Memphis is a fantastic player and if he can play the season with Lyon, we will only be stronger.
“But like many of my players, if they have the opportunity to play in a club built to win the Champions League, and he’s met a lot of them last season, I will personally take him in my car.”
Chelsea have completed the capture of young goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe on a three-year deal from Burton Albion.
The 17-year-old, who has featured for England at Under-17 at level, will be loaned back to the League One outfit for the 2020/21 campaign.
“It’s brilliant and it has all happened so fast,” Sharman-Lowe told the club’s website.
“Burton have developed me so well and now it’s another new beginning and, hopefully, I can develop further with Chelsea.
“I’m excited to be joining such a great club, especially as they are known for bringing on young players.
ICYMI: Arsenal offered two players for Partey
Arsenal have reportedly discussed the possibility of swapping two players for Thomas Partey.
The Gunners are keen to land Partey this summer but Atleti are adamant his £45million release clause must be met.
Arsenal are unwilling to part with that fee at this time but could raise funds for such a deal as they step up their summer clearout.
However, Arsenal have also proposed a deal which would see both Matteo Guendouzi and Alexandre Lacazette move to the Wanda Metropolitano in exchange for Partey.
“For sure they spoke with Atletico Madrid,” Romano told Lee Gunner on his YouTube channel.
“It was during the meeting they had for Thomas, the first time it was in July. They spoke about Matteo Guendouzi and they spoke also about Lacazette.”

Barcelona’s summer clear-out is now unlikely to include Lionel Messi after the Argentinian revealed he would see out his contract – and that could spell bad news for Antoine Griezmann.
According to The Mail on Sunday, the Blaugrana are keen to rebuild their squad and Griezmann, 29, has struggled to replicate the form he showed at Atletico Madrid since his £107m move.
It is claimed Arsenal and Manchester United are among the clubs monitoring the France international, with Barca coach Ronald Koeman keen to focus on younger talents such as Ansu Fati.
Former Chelsea youngster Ola Aina leave Torino to join Fulham on loan for the season, reports Sky Italy’s Fabrizio Romano.
Fulham will be able to make the deal permanent.

When does the 2020 summer transfer window close?
The window is now open for 10 weeks from July 27.
Following consultation with the EFL, a domestic-only window will be added from 5 October, closing 5pm on 16 October.
During this window, Premier League clubs will only be able to trade with EFL clubs (either loans or permanent registrations). No transfers can take place between Premier League clubs in this period.
