Liverpool transfer round-up: Kylian Mbappe latest as youngsters depart on loan

Liverpool had a successful summer on the transfer front ahead of their Premier League title defence.

After securing their first title in 30 years, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp added Thiago Alcantara, Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota to his squad as he looks to extend the club’s stay at the summit.

But with numerous additions to his side’s ranks, the German approached the domestic transfer deadline in the knowledge he would need to offload a number of stars.

As such, Liverpool remained busy right up to the 5pm deadline, securing loan and permanent exits for a number of youngsters and fringe players.

Here, we round up the latest Liverpool transfer news.

Mbappe is Klopp’s ‘dream signing’

The Reds boss has identified Mbappe as his dream target

Klopp has his sights set on landing dream target Kylian Mbappe, according to AS .

The German is thought to be a keen admirer of the 21-year-old Paris Saint-Germain star, who joined the French champions for £131m in 2018 after a year on loan from Monaco.

Liverpool would face stiff competition for the 2018 World Cup winner, however, with La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona both said to be keen.

Mbappe is said to be Real boss Zinedine Zidane’s top target while Victor Font, who is in the running to become Barcelona president, has reportedly already reached out to the player’s representatives.

Mbappe has scored 92 goals in 127 games for PSG, helping them to three successive Ligue 1 titles and last season’s Champions League final.

Woodburn, Wilson and Elliott depart on loan

Elliott, who made one appearance in the Carabao Cup this season, moved to Blackburn on loan

Liverpool trio Ben Woodburn, Harry Wilson and Harvey Elliott all departed on loan ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Woodburn joined Blackpool, where he will link up with former Liverpool under-23 boss Neil Critchley on a short-term deal until January.

The 21-year-old, who had been linked with Hull earlier in the window, has 10 caps for Wales but has found first-team football hard to come by at Anfield with just 11 appearances since his debut in 2016.

Meanwhile, Harry Wilson joined Cardiff on a season-long loan for a reported £1.2m fee.

The 23-year-old also attracted interest from Swansea City, Nottingham Forest, Norwich City and Derby County, where he had a successful spell during the 2018/19 campaign.

Wilson is keen to play regular first-team football after scoring seven goals in 35 appearances on loan at Bournemouth last season.

And finally, 17-year-old Harvey Elliott departed for Blackburn. The highly-rated winger was tipped to stay at Liverpool this season but the club’s fourth-round exit from the Carabao Cup opened up the possibility of a loan move.
