It seems like Mercedes looks set for another one-two finish in the season as they look to add the Italian Grand Prix in this year’s season.
However, it will not be the typical one-two finish we are used to this season ( or any for that matter).
During the practice sessions and qualification, Valtteri Bottas showed a far more controlled performance and had the upper-edge on Lewis Hamilton for most of the qualification before the Brit edged him by 0.069 seconds to get pole.
But it will only take a slight delay in the pits or the wrong decision from Hamilton to give Bottas that opportunity. We could even see a dramatic start in turns one and two on the first lap?
Either way, I’m backing Bottas to win this one at 3/1.
The exciting part of the race will be decided in turns four and five as well as eight, nine and 10 – especially as Ferrari failed to get a top 10 car on their home circuit.
Sebastien Vettel will be disappointed finishing 17th while Charles Leclerc got knocked out in the second round of qualifying. Not exactly what you want to see from Ferrari.
However, I can see Leclerc finishing in the top 10 by the end of the race and at 3/4 with thepools.com that seems a promising prospect to back.
His style will suit Monza very well, you just need to look at his win last year as proof, so expect him to easily claim a minimum three places and a very aggressive start from the Monte Carlo-man.
Here are the odds to win the Italian Grand Prix:
- Lewis Hamilton – 1/4
- Valtteri Bottas – 3/1
- Max Verstappen – 14/1
- Carlos Sainz Jr – 33/1
- Sergio Perez – 40/1
- Lando Norris – 80/1
