With the SailGP event to be held in Sydney this year in the month of February, preparations are already on the way. There are six nations participating in this race and the home team is also stepping up its preparations to participate and challenge the other national teams. The crew that would be manning the foiling vessel would include several sailors, some of whom have been Olympic champions as well. There are also vectors of America’s Cup and world title holders in the youth racing category.
The star-studded crew is being talked about much these days, especially since Tom Slingsby, Olympic gold medalist, and winner of America’s Cup would be skipper of the boat. He would be aided by several other able sailors such as Kyle Langford who was also a former team member in America’s Cup race. While he trims the wings there would be Sam Newton and Ky Hurst joining him as former teammates from last America’s Cup tournament that was held in Bermuda. Indeed, it is a continuation of their team efforts and world sailing experiences. They would also be joined by Jason Waterhouse who is also an Olympian in his own right and a youth World Champion as well.
While the home team is a well-selected one with Olympic level champions on board, the other national teams would also include sailors with similar credentials. The France team is already at the Sydney Harbor, setting up their latest F50 vessel which is one of the latest designs and flaunts the best of the sailing capabilities in this category. The race course area of the Sydney Harbor would be around Shark Island. The race would flag off in the afternoon of 15th February and complete in the evening hours of Saturday, 16th February.
